When hunger strikes in the late hours of the night, you have a few choices of places to eat at in Atlanta. At 3:00 a.m. your choices usually include: Waffle House, IHOP, and McDonalds.
When hunger strikes in the late hours of the night, you have a few choices of places to eat at in Atlanta. At 3:00 a.m. your choices usually include: Waffle House, IHOP, and McDonalds. After a possibly long night, coming to these few places may not be your first choice. These choices may not be seen by everybody as very healthy, full of quality, and may not be the tastiest ones either. If only there was a more appealing options.

Off Peachtree Road a unique restaurant by the name of R Thomas Deluxe Grill is present. They are open twenty-four hours, everyday of the week. When asking an employee about their more detailed hours of operation, their truthful response is that they are more on the closed side between 5:00 am to 8:00 am for cleaning. That is not enough for them to lock the doors though!

Walking up from the parking lot behind the establishment, the colorful parrots and other sleeping birds are surely to catch your eye. The initial visual appeal is only the beginning of R Thomas experience. On the outside of their restaurant there are wind chimes ringing lightly against the city breeze, unconsciously pulling you inside. They definitely have an interesting atmosphere. It’s lively, colorful, and full of eclectic décor not only on the outside. The dining area is basically an area under a tent with lots of bead curtains. It is not lavish, but do not let that get your hopes down for their food. The employees may seem intimidating with their interesting tattoos and piercings, but don’t let that lead you to believe they are not nice and caring! When asking the waitress to categorize the employees, her response was: “We are a little bit hippie, indie, goth, and punk, but we are mostly misfits.” The restaurant is full of interesting knick knacks and trippy lights on the ceilings and on the walls. It is a very inviting place, especially for hungry tummies and wandering eyes.

Other dining places usually have breakfast as the main entrée for eating at late hours. R Thomas has a small section for their omelettes, but that is not all they have to offer. They do offer flax chips, smoothies inside coconuts, portabella linguine, and their preferred Thomas burger. A really healthy aspect is that everything is organic including the meat, sugar packets on your table, wine and beer!

The restaurant welcomes both carnivores and herbivores. They are kid friendly, and do not put honey in kids’ smoothies to avoid potential risks in their systems. They really display motivation to please everyone. R Thomas is a great restaurant in the day, and even more satisfying at night with their diverse menu.

R Thomas has been open since the fall of 1985. It continues to be a desirable destination for the people of Atlanta. You do not have to settle for less. Come drop by for a memorable eating experience – anytime your heart desires!

If Southern style cooking means more to you than grits and fried green tomatoes, you need to visit Atlanta, GA for a taste of gourmet Southern dining. Restaurants in Atlanta are stocked with all types of food for the taste connoisseur, and you can bet the cafes, diners, and eateries of Atlanta rival and home-cooked meals in the South.

No vacation to Atlanta is complete without sampling some of the delicious cuisine. Whether you are staying in Downtown Atlanta, nearby Marietta, neighboring Kennesaw, or any other locality around Cobb County, you will want to check out some of these fine dining establishments.

- Chicken & Waffles – No trip to a Southern city like Atlanta would be complete without some home-cooked soul food. Opened by Gladys Knight as an homage to 30s Harlem musicians, this restaurant is open late, serving both breakfast and dinner to meet your needs.

- Mary Mac’s Tea Room – One of the only places serving free cornbread and signature pot likker soup to tourist visiting Atlanta, this tea room was started in 1945 by women looking to become entrepreneurs after they were no longer needed making war rations. Using locally grown vegetables and homemade bread are just two of the highlights of this traditional Atlanta restaurant.

- 4th & Swift – One of top chef’s in Atlanta, Jay Swift, operates this restaurant in Atlanta that serves different Southern dishes depending on the season or availability of ingredients. While the menu isn’t extensive, it does offer variety week to week, and the plates are large enough to fill you up.

- Sweet Auburn Bread Company – The head chef and owner of this Atlanta restaurant, Sonya Jones, is a native of the Sweet Auburn neighborhood of Atlanta. Her eatery has gained a reputation for some of the best cheesecakes in the South, even garnering the attention of Rachel Ray for inclusion in her cookbook.

If you are thinking about taking a vacation to Atlanta or you just want to try some of the best Southern cooking this side of the Mason-Dixon Line, visit the Cobb County Convention & Visitors Bureau at http://www.cobbcvb.com to get a free map and visitors guide, and let them help you plan the best trip to Atlanta possible.
